You Need An Attorney After Any Sex-Related Charge

Being charged with a sex crime has extremely serious implications. You or your loved one needs to know the gravity of the crime charged and what you or he/she may be up against. At Powell Law Firm P.A., your constitutional rights and reputation are of the highest importance.

If your case ends up going to trial, it is important to be aware of who is going to be a part of the process, what the state can use as evidence and how we can defend it.

An Experienced Attorney Is Essential

When seeking an attorney to represent your case, your main concern should be his or her experience. I’m Mike Powell and I have experience both defending and prosecuting the following felony sex crimes:

  • Sexual battery
  • Lewd molestation and battery
  • Child abuse and neglect
  • Unlawful sexual activity with a minor
  • Failure to register as a sex offender

With my extensive experience on both sides of the case, you can trust that I, am well versed in the process and that I have the skills needed to obtain the best outcome for you based on your facts.

The state of Florida has some of the strictest sex crime penalties. In 2005, Jessica’s Law was enacted after the rape and murder of Jessica Lunsford. This law states that for adults convicted of a sex crime against a victim who is less than 12 years old, there is a required minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and a lifetime of electronic monitoring. Sexual battery and rape of a child of the same age can lead to a lifetime in prison with no chance of parole.
